Stoney Brook, Part 2

After our delicious lunch, we discovered this old dining hall/pavilion.

The tables and benches were made from huge trees.

What were these doors designed to keep out?

Happy to be here.

Back on the trail.

Looking at the gigantic walls of stone all around us.

We walked in the cold water making sure we didn't fall on the slippery rocks.

My feet were freezing!
Farther down the trail we came to the waterfalls.

And then we saw two people climbing up a vertical wall.  I can't imagine why.

One of Walt's panoramic views...

The walls were covered in varieties of  tiny ferns,
and a couple might have made their way back to Kansas.  Maybe.
Little dripping springs keep the ferns watered.

It seems like we had been walking all afternoon.  This is the last of several waterfalls we looked at.

Time to head back home after snacking on cold watermelon.
More upstate New York to follow....

  1. My purloined ferns are still green, even in the snow. Since the ones native to our yard died at the first hint of cold weather, these tiny ones must be completely different.

    1. Same here. Some are gone and some are still green. My little biscuit mosses are sort of yellow. Not sure if they will green up...

  2. Coincidence? My "make sure you're not a robot" request after mentioning stolen ferns included the number 666!
